People in Somaliland State Administration has today on Monday gone to cast their votes at polling stations assigned to elect new president, SONNA reported.
Spokesperson of Somaliland’s electoral Commission, Said Ali Muse told reporters that the voting started at 7:00 am in the morning and will end at the evening( 6:00 PM), saying voters are casting their votes in a very peaceful way.
” The voting is going on well in every direction at the 1,642 polling station in the 21 electoral districts in Somaliland, no security threat at all, there is a peace in everywhere, we urge voter to cast their votes in peace”, Mr. Muse said.
Kheyriya, a journalist based in Barama town told Somali National News Agency that the situation is very calm, saying people are a long line to vote for the presidential election there.
Pregnant, blind and aged person are given special respect for not to get in queues and have quick access to vote soon according to the officials.
Three candidates are vying for the presidential post in Somaliland today, It is the third presidential election held in Somaliland Administration so far.
The ruling Party’s flag bearer, Muse Bihi Abdi, Waddani Party’s candidate, Abdirahman Mohamed Abdulahi ‘Iro’ and UCID Party’s candidate, Faysal Ali Warabe are competing for the presidency.
Ahmed Mohamed Mohamud, current president of Somaliland State is exempted to run.
Somali leaders congratulated Somaliland’s election campaign at the end of the consultative meeting on November 5, 2017 here in the capital Mogadishu.
“We are congratulating Somaliland Administration on election procedure campaign that indicates politically stable, we wish it end in peaceful manner”, the statement said.
No one knows who will win in the on-going presidential election so far, but analysts say either Muse Bihi or Abdirahman Iro would possibly win.
